About Us
Leonard Mrsny opened Kenwood Model Railroad Supply in May of 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska. The store began as a small model railroad supply store. O-scale was the rule of the day and primarily Lionel trains and parts were the bulk of the store products. At that time, Leonard had registered with the fledgling NMRA.
The store moved to its present location on 81st and Maple Street in 1952. It was renamed House of Trains in 1962. From 1967 to the late 1970's more than just model trains were carried. The House of Trains was a full line hobby shop stocking model trains, airplanes, rockets, slot cars, scenery, plastic kits and accessories. A lot of hobbies are intertwined as all of these hobbies are hands on intuitive hobbies.

During 1969-70, the present building was built at 8106 Maple Street when US Highway 64 was widened from two to four lanes.
Over the years, the House of Trains has been refined as the hobby and customer interest has changed.
Richard and David Mrsny, Leonard's son and grandson, respectively, purchased the business from Leonard in 1987 and are the current operators of the store. We offer all scales in the store and through the website, however S-gauge is special order at this time.
As always, repairs and knowledgeable assistance with the model trains of all sizes are offered. As in conducting with any good business practice, good lines of communication are crucial. We provide honest and open communication on product availability, price, repairs, assembly/layout assistance and technological questions. We will promptly respond to any inquiries to the best of our ability.
We try to ship most items within two business days. There are times, however, when it may take a little longer during the Christmas season or during vacation. Special order items will be shipped upon availability. An email notice will be sent when the package ships with any available tracking number. Nebraska residents will be charged appropriate sales tax for their shipping address. Shipping insurance may be purchased if desired.
For those customers who do not want to use a credit card over the internet, please contact the store and arrangements can be made for mailing a money order or check.
